How Many Types of Prosthesis Are There?

Prostheses are divided into two as fixed and removable prostheses.Fixed dentures are the oldest type of denture used for missing teeth and are also known as bridges or veneers. These prostheses, are prostheses that are specially prepared for person, fixed for the missing part and cannot be removed by the person.Removable prostheses are generally preferred in multiple tooth loss.Artificial teeth that can be inserted and removed from the gums in the form of molds are called removable prostheses.Removable prostheses, like fixed prostheses, maintain the functionality of the tooth.

What are the Types of Fixed Prosthesis?

Fixed prostheses are more preferred because they fill the place of missing teeth with one-to-one dimensions and are the oldest types of prostheses.Types of fixed prostheses are metal-supported porcelain veneers, zirconium veneers, laminated (leaf porcelain) and e-max crowns. There are fundamental differences between metal-supported porcelain veneers and zirconium coatings.Zirconium veneers have a more harmonious and more natural appearance to the teeth of the person, and there is a possibility of abrasions and reflection on the gum over time in metal-supported porcelain veneers. However, metal-supported porcelain veneers are one of the most preferred and oldest types of prostheses.Laminated (leaf prostheses) are prostheses used in partial tooth loss.If there is a defect, crookedness or deformity in the tooth structure, thin prostheses in the form of nails are attached by lightly abrading the anterior surface of the tooth.E-max crowns are the type of prosthesis that gives the most natural and aesthetic appearance with crown structure.E-max crown prosthesis are special veneers and are applied to yellowed, decayed, crooked teeth with root canal treatment. They both attract attention aesthetically and preserve the natural appearance.

Do Prostheses Need Care?

The need for care in prostheses is also as in the teeth.Because a foreign substance comes into contact with the mouth, they must also be hygienic. For dental and gum health, removable prostheses should be removed and cleaned daily. In fixed prostheses, the same care should be continued in the mouth.Because not cleaning the prostheses causes tooth or gum problems under the prostheses.Care for fixed or partial prostheses is the same as daily dental care. You will ensure the care of the prostheses by brushing and flossing teeth 3 times a day.

 What is the Treatment Process?

The treatment of prosthetic teeth is determined according to the structure of the person's mouth.Prostheses are adapted according to the tooth structure, tooth size and jaw structure of the person. While 2 sessions are required for some prostheses, 5-6 sessions may be required for others. Prostheses are tested in the tooth structure and tested to see if they become compatible.
